National Pollutant Inventory (NPI)
Australian NPI submissions are based on usages and emissions over one year of operation. In general, companies report either on a calendar or a financial year basis. Final date for submission of financial year reports is September 30th and data should be prepared as soon as possible after July 1st. Final date for submission of calendar year reports is March 31st and data should be prepared as soon as possible after January 1st.

Licences
EPA licences are in the process of changing to a new format. The previous system was over 30 years old and changes were needed to meet community expectations and current environmental challenges. The new system is simpler in appearance and in format, but the onus is now on the highest officer or CEO of the company to produce an Annual Performance Statement, which will be publicly available online. This must contain any annual usages, monitoring and modelling that may be necesssary to demonstrate compliance with licence conditions, SEPP and any community consultation issues.

New Format for Works Approvals
Recently, changes were made to the Works Approval application procedure, resulting in a totally new format. The new application form can be downloaded here. This has simplified the process of assessment and has considerably reduced the processing timeline. However, the 21 day advertising period remains in place and provided that there are no public objections or further queries by the Authorities involved (such as local Council, Water Authorities etc.), the assessment of the application can commence.

EPA Corporate Licensing
EPA Victoria has recently simplified the licensing approach applying to companies holding two or more EPA licences. The change will save companies money as well as improve environmental outcomes.
